Merrell Men's Moab 2 Mid Gtx High Rise Hiking Shoes
I own two pairs of these boots and absolutely love them. They might not be the most expensive boots on the marketing but they are comfortable straight out of the box. I have found they provide good ankle support and a decent level of grip with the Vibram sole. They have a gore-tex membrane which provides a decent level of waterproof protection. I had dry feet even after dunking both feet in a river on Dartmoor.

Saucony Peregrine 12
I have used these trail runners on the Brecon Beacons, Dartmoor and on the West Highland Way and at times in horrendous weather conditions and I can honestly say that I absolutely love them. The are comfortable, breathable and provide loads of grip even of wet surfaces. They are however not waterproof and you should take that into account because on longer trails you will walk with wet feet and although the shoes did not rub for me not everyone is comfortable with the idea of walking with wet feet and the different style of walking this type of footwear enables.
